Cape Conran Christmas camping: how bookings work

Christmas camping at Banksia Bluff works in seven-night blocks, not as a loose run of individual dates. That is the rule to understand before searching Cape Conran: during the core summer period, arrivals and departures happen on Saturdays and a booking must cover at least a week.

Summer 2026/27 bookings are open now. Banksia Bluff itself is temporarily closed through the end of October 2026 for water and wastewater work, so check current conditions before travelling. The Christmas dates sit after the planned reopening, but planned works can move.

The Christmas stay rules

Between Saturday 19 December 2026 and Saturday 23 January 2027, Parks Victoria's release schedule sets these restrictions for Banksia Bluff:

• minimum stay of seven nights
• maximum stay of 14 nights
• arrivals and departures on Saturdays only

In practice, Christmas and New Year are weekly blocks. Searching Tuesday 29 December as a fresh arrival will not reveal the real shape of availability because Saturday 26 December is that week's permitted start date.

Parks Victoria numbers the campground's sites from 1 to 135. Sites 68 to 135 are dog-friendly. Prepare a preferred site and a few backups before entering the booking system.

What Schnerp saw in the July release

In its 7 July scan, Schnerp detected 500 watched site-nights at Banksia Bluff covering 26 to 29 December. That is an observation from the live inventory, not a Parks Victoria announcement and not 500 campsites. It shows how one summer release can create a large block of bookable nights across many sites.

The distinction matters because the official July schedule put general bookable campsites in the 8 July release. Schnerp's scan saw the inventory on 7 July, but we should not turn a scan timestamp into an official release date.

How Parks Victoria release mornings work

Parks Victoria normally opens accommodation in four releases each year, about six to nine months ahead. For high-demand openings, the booking lobby opens before 10am AEST.

The lobby is not a queue. Arriving at 9:30 gives no priority over arriving at 9:59. At 10am, everyone already in the lobby is assigned a random place in the Virtual Waiting Room. Anyone who arrives after 10am joins at the back.

Before release time, have these ready:

• your campground, dates and backup sites
• guest details and vehicle registration
• a Visa or Mastercard
• the word “TBC” or “Hire Car” if you do not know the registration yet

You can book at most three campsites in the same campground in one transaction. There is no peak-season ballot and no waitlist.

When a cancellation comes back

Parks Victoria says a cancelled site returns to the live booking system immediately. Its current refund schedule creates three decision points:

• cancel at least 30 days before arrival for a full refund
• cancel 8 to 29 days before arrival for a 50% refund
• cancel fewer than 8 days before arrival with no refund

Those rules do not promise that space will appear at a particular time. They explain when a camper has the strongest reason to act. Check around the 30-day and 8-day boundaries, then keep an eye on the live calendar.
